Agency Search
Our observation is that agency search is usually done one of two ways: Either a company conducts the search on its own, with the communications executives asking colleagues for referrals, or a search firm is retained in an attempt to bring objectivity and thoroughness to the process. While it probably comes as no surprise that we endorse the merits of retaining a firm to facilitate the search, we believe there’s a better way. Years of experience teaches us that a passion for objectivity, while admirable in other situations, is a fatal flaw in the search process.
Technical requirements to meet the client’s needs, we believe, are a prerequisite for consideration….not the criteria for success. Without those skills, a firm is out of the process. But that’s when the search really begins. The first thing we do is really understand your needs to ensure agency responses are focused and actionable. Then, how a firm approaches the opportunity, the passion it exerts, the ways in which it leverages its institutional knowledge, the commitment being made by management, the cultural fit, and so on are critical success factors to the partnership.
