Improving Productivity
You’re probably being asked to do more with less.
Not easy, but given this need for heightened productivity, we believe the productivity and accountability demands of a service firm environment now have strong relevance and applicability to corporate communications departments.
When was the last time you really audited your organization’s workflow? Let’s say, between your own organization and your agencies’, you have 10 people working for you. Or maybe 20. Or more. And let’s say you expect 2000 hours of productivity from each employee. Well, for a group of 10, you’re talking 20,000 hours of work! For 20, it’s 40,000 hours! And so on.
Think it’s important?
Focus and productivity are just two aspects of team performance. The other critical aspect is team dynamics. Teams are fluid, often cross-functional and cross-border, and can seem difficult to manage. But in the never-ending demands of any organization, addressing team performance issues usually gets short shrift. The result: Often the most important dynamic to successful outcomes – the team itself – is regarded secondary to “just get it done.” Not a great long-term solution.
Feldman & Partners employs several techniques to help. We start with an understanding of desired outcomes. We explore clarity of structure and strategic focus. (What may be clear to you may not be clear to someone else.) We seek counsel from management so that we may be sensitive to individual people dynamics and then “parachute in” to help assess where things are and to lay out a plan to make them better. We offer a Team Impact & Performance Program that helps clients institutionalize the process of regularly calibrating priorities; prioritizing barriers to success and then tackling them; ensuring clarity of responsibilities and then maintaining accountability; and institutionalizing communication among team leaders. Technology often plays a key role in facilitating communication and consensus building.
